My Practice Notes this Week! (11/05/2025)

Liebermann Sonata (Deep Dive), Frustrations in the Practice Room, and a New Routine

Happy WEDNESDAY!!!!!! I hope you had the most wonderful week, and an epic HALLO-WEEKEND!! And now that Halloween is done, you should know that I am 100000% subscribing to the Christmas Season, all the way down to listening to the Michael Buble Christmas Album every day of the week from now until January. I don’t make the rules- It’s Christmas time now. Snow or not! And, since Starbucks Holiday drinks come out tomorrow (November 6th), I feel totally valid in my Christmas-ing, and so should you. I even wore my first Christmas Sweater on Monday!!!

I’ve had a super illuminating week after a super busy weekend in. Although there were lots of fun Halloween plans to be had, I opted to stay in this weekend to practice and get ahead on some of the many, MANY assignments I have coming up. Culminating Projects are starting to rear their ugly heads, and I’d rather start now, ridiculously early, than start late and be super stressed out. This is one of my pro-tips for managing stress and managing to stay on top of all of your projects when we’re getting close to finals season- plus, if you start early and spread your work out, you never have to sacrifice practice time to get your academic work done. That’s a win in my books!

Lastly before we dive into my lesson notes for this week: I am SUPER excited to share that I will be attending the Midwest Music Education Conference in Chicago from December 17th-19th! I am so excited to meet pedagogues from all over the continent and learn more about teaching to improve my skills as a private teacher, speaker, and educator. I’ll also be seeing the Chicago Symphony Orchestra while I’m in town and visiting the Chicago Institute of Art. Are you heading to Midwest too? Let me know! I’d love to meet you!!!

NOW… let’s get into my lesson notes. This week, we finished up diving into the Liebermann Flute Sonata & talked about frustrations in the practice room. I also implemented a new morning routine this week (with the help of daylight savings time) and we’ll be talking about that too!
