Hey everybody!!! How are you? I am so glad to be back with another round of Weekly Practice Notes for you. Sharing everything I learn each week as a young flutist is so much fun for me, and I hope it’s helpful for you, too! One of my main goals with this weekly Substack is to make the flute education that I’ve been so lucky to access more accessible to other flutists and avid classical music listeners, so I am so glad you are here.
Today, we’re going to be diving into my notes from both my lesson on Schumann Romances Mvt. 3, and my notes from a wonderfully inspiring class given by the incomparable Lorna McGhee at Carnegie Mellon University on Monday! I can’t wait to share everything I learned with you… from peaceful body and breathing, to extracting maximum expression from each little gesture in the music- this was a SUPER educational flute week for me. Let’s get into it!!
First of all, let’s get into the notes from the class given by Lorna McGhee, former Principal flute of The Pittsburgh Symphony, and current Principal Flute of the Boston Symphony.
